Champions (UK) plc were honoured to devise, create and manage the inaugural Tony Jacklin CBE Wentworth Charity Invitational which took place on 27th August 2014. Hosted by the two-time Major winning golfer, the event took place at one of the world’s most exclusive courses.
Wentworth Golf Club’s owner, Richard Caring, was extraordinarily generous in allowing Tony the free use of the West Course. There were 25 teams on the day of the event and a ‘shotgun start’ ensured the day’s play was done in time for a fine dining experience accompanied by quality wines and excellent entertainment.
The event raised valuable funds for the Rainbow’s Children’s Hospice in Leicestershire, the day was replete with top household names, professionals and celebrities all taking to the fairways. Star golfers such as Peter Baker, Gary Wolstenholme MBE and Paul Broadhurst were joined on the course by high profile sportsmen such as Damon Hill OBE and Sir Steve Redgrave, plus the actor, James Nesbitt. Sir Garfield Sobers also flew in all the way from Barbados for this very special occasion.
After the golf, guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal back at the Clubhouse. Entertainment was provided by comedian and entertainer Kev Orkian, as well as musical legend Merill Osmond and Boyzone singer Keith Duffy who sung a duet of ‘Love Me For A Reason’.
Guests enjoyed accommodation at the beautiful Pennyhill Park. Lyle & Scott donated all the players’ shirts for the day and there was also an exclusive whisky tasting on the first tee provided by luxury Scottish whisky maker Glenmorangie. The event was generously supported by sponsors: Farmfoods, William Hill, Glenmorangie, Lyle &Scott, Pennyhill Park and the Barbados Tourist Board.
