Annual Coventry & Warwickshire Sports Awards are huge success

Wednesday 5 October saw months of preparation finally culminate for the annual Coventry and Warwickshire Sports Awards – a night which had been anticipated since nominations opened four months earlier.

Once again Champions (UK) plc were proud to handle the entire awards process from the launch of the nominations to the finishing touches on the night. The Ricoh Arena was carefully selected to provide a fitting backdrop for the sports awards, lavishly dressed to create a special environment in which a number of outstanding sportspeople could receive their accolades.

Hundreds of guests, comprised of finalists, sponsors and a selection of celebrity guests, arrived at the venue and were greeted with a fantastic Champagne reception. Following this they were seated for a three course gourmet delight before the presentation of the awards commenced.

The ceremony was placed into the expert hands of the hosts for the evening; acclaimed sports broadcaster, Gary Newbon and former badminton Olympian and silver medallist, Gail Emms MBE. Having hosted a number of awards ceremonies previously, the pair worked perfectly together ensuring the guests were always entertained.

Many awards, which celebrated achievements from grassroots to elite level, were showcased on the night as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award which showcases an individual who has made a career out of their beloved sport, and subsequently contributed significantly to the sporting community over the years. This year the award was placed into the hands of former international rugby union and England flanker Neil Back MBE. The Coventry-born star was honoured to be recognised for his unfaltering dedication to the nation’s favourite sport. (Find the full list of categories and winners below)

The night was a huge success on many levels including the remarkable amount of money it raised for two local deserving charities, NewLife and the Snowball trust who both do life changing work for disabled and terminally ill children.

The curtain may have drawn on this year’s awards, but as one event finishes the preparations for the next one just begin at Champions…
