A Day in the Life of:

Sarah Hatcher – Senior Marketing Manager:

My day can be rather varied, but on a general basis I’ve listed just some of the activities that I get up to in a day at Champions (UK) plc:

I oversee all management of a team of 16 in our design and marketing studio. This includes the entire creative team of graphic designers and our in house web team. I also, of course, manage the entire marketing team, which consists of marketing executives and account managers, as well as our copywriting team. An aspect of this is recruitment and career progression as well as planning for all members of my widespread team.

I undertake a variety of account management for regional and national clients involving hands on responsibilities of all marketing and advertising mediums. As part of this, I research and source products for our clients, predominantly these include a range of different marketing tools for internal, external and promotional use.

When sourcing these products I negotiate print & media buying to ensure that we secure the best pricing possible for our clients. The media buying we carry out can be a variety of printed or outdoor advertising on a regional and national press basis, as well as undertaking digital advertising where possible. As stated, we also design, source and deliver large tonnages of paper, printed marketing materials and Point of Sale items for our clients. I oversee all aspects of this type of activity, as well as source it myself.

I look after all of the organisation of client marketing activity, creating Gantt and organisational charts for large projects and briefing in design and print work to the creative teams. I also brief in writing and marketing activities to the marketing and copywriting teams to ensure delivery is on deadline. In addition, I also attend and run press passes for a number of printed marketing materials for clients.

Also, new business is a large aspect of my role. I consistently attend events – both organised by Champions as well as external events; wherein I meet with new contacts for potential business opportunities. When looking at new business I research all aspects of a potential client’s industry as well as their brief, focusing on how we can deliver results with marketing solutions. I then create presentations and pitches to take to pitch meetings.

Client meetings are essentially important and I dedicate a large proportion of my time ensuring communications with clients are kept open – organising meetings to run through our developments with their latest projects/updates/schedules. As part of client liaison I monitor and communicate progress of campaigns directly to Senior Stakeholders, as well as produce financial reports for them.

As you can see, my days are never dull! I have many different aspects to my job, but I hope this gives you a little bit of an insight into my role at Champions (UK) plc.
