Announcing The Authors XI vs The Lord’s Taverners XI
On September 9th of 2018, Champions UK plc is set to host one of the most celebrated cricket events of the year. Reviving a rich cultural tradition and propelling it forward into the 21st century, the event will see the famed Authors XI take on The Lord’s Taverners XI for a day of charity fundraising, fine dining, lavish entertainment and incredible cricket.
With a sporting pedigree steeped in history, the Authors XI first turned out back in 1891. Delivering an all-star line-up that featured some of the greatest literary legends of all time, the team originally featured the likes of PG Wodehouse, Arthur Conan Doyle and JM Barrie. Making appearances across the country, the team of celebrated authors tested their metal against cricket teams of all shapes and sizes. Returning to centre stage in 2012, the concept has since been revived in all its glory. This year, the team is set to feature several major names in modern literature, including appearances from Sebastian Faulks CBE, Tom Holland, Will Fiennes and Dr. Peter Frankopan.
The Authors’ sporting adversaries are no less renowned. This time around, The Lord’s Taverners XI will feature Ashes winner and one of the top cricket speakers Matthew Hoggard MBE, rugby legend Neil Back MBE, former England cricket captain Mike Gatting OBE, auction host and Bargain Hunt expert Richard Madley, Somerset paceman Andy Caddick and iconic England fly-half Rob Andrew MBE. With each team hoping to achieve victory for their own side, the match promises to be an exciting sporting event.
Set in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, the event looks set to raise valuable funds for The Lord’s Taverners and Chance to Shine, both of which are notable cricketing charities. Delivering unrivalled sporting entertainment in a magnificent summer setting, this year’s event is sure to be the best one yet.
