Champions Line Up to Manage the National Children of Wales Awards
Great news for Champions this month, as it was announced that we will plan and manage the prestigious National Children of Wales Awards taking place at Celtic Manor in Newport.
Run by the Pembrokeshire-based Bluestone National Park Resort and its charitable arm, the Bluestone Foundation, the event will recognise and celebrate brave children and young people who face down challenges every day.
And to help celebrate the achievements of these inspirational young people across Wales, the awards, on Friday April 3, will be hosted by TV presenter Carol Vorderman MBE and Welsh rugby legend Ian Gough.
Together with the Bluestone Foundation, we aim to raise £100,000 for charities dedicated to helping children, such as the Teenage Cancer Trust, Dreams & Wishes and the NSPCC.
Blanche Sainsbury, founder of the National Children of Wales Awards, which were launched last September, said: “We have been blown away by the support and enthusiasm we have received from all quarters as well as the public interest and the numbers of nominations.
“But for the event to be a success, it is critical we work with the right partners and, as such, we are delighted to have identified Champions as the perfect complement to the rest of our team to help us deliver a truly spectacular evening.”
The right hosts for the occasion
Carol Vorderman, the former Countdown star who hails from Prestatyn in North Wales, has presented the Pride of Britain awards for several years and been a long-standing supporter of the Save The Children charity.
She said she was delighted to be involved in the first National Children of Wales Awards.
“Special events such as this are so important to shine a light on the incredible stories of courage demonstrated by young people across Wales,” she said.
Joining her will be Ian Gough, a former lock forward who made 64 Test appearances for Wales over the course of an 18-year rugby union career.
He said he was honoured to be involved and added: “To be part of the recognition and rewarding of these remarkable young people as well as raising substantial amounts for some great causes is truly humbling for me.”
Carol and Ian will present awards in a number of categories, ranging from diversity, bravery, courage and sporting achievements, as well as to children who help others as carers and through fundraising activities.
An important event for Champions
Managing an event of this magnitude is further proof of Champions’ position as a leading UK events agency and expands our already extensive event management portfolio. And the National Children of Wales Award looks set to be a thrilling project for our team.
David Simms, Champions’ group sales director, said: “These awards do outstanding work in recognising truly inspirational children across the country. The winners will exemplify wonderful levels of bravery and each has tremendous spirit, which is important to recognise.”
And he added: “Event management is a big part of what we do here at Champions and we’re always looking to support wonderful causes wherever possible. These awards align with our own values, so we’re delighted to be working with the team in Wales this year.”
As well as managing charity balls and award ceremonies, Champions also has the privilege of organising a selection high-profile golf tournaments, including the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship and official Staysure Tour events, the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship and the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.
