After a year of successful collaboration between Champions (UK) plc and leading British disability sports charity Lord’s Taverners, the Champions team is proud to announce an extension of our flourishing partnership. With a number of significant successes having already been achieved throughout 2018, our relationship with Lord’s Taverners now looks set to further strengthen in 2019.

Originally founded in 1950, Lord’s Taverners offers disabled and disadvantaged young people much-needed access to sporting opportunities. Working with marginalised young people across the United Kingdom, the charity plays a crucial role in enhancing young lives through sport and recreation.

Having assisted with organising a number of fundraising events, sourcing charity sponsorship and providing high-profile speakers from the worlds of football, golf, cricket and rugby, Champions has played an important role in shaping the charity’s public profile. One of the partnership’s biggest highlights has undoubtedly been The Authors XI vs. The Lord’s Taverners XI – a celebrity cricket match that saw authors such as Sebastian Faulks CBE face off against the likes of Matthew Hoggard MBE.

2018 also saw Lord’s Taverners become the Official Farmfoods European Senior Masters Charity of Choice, linking the charity to one of the UK’s best-loved golfing events. Speaking on the ongoing relationship, Lord’s Taverners CEO Paul Robin said:

“From firm foundations, the growing relationship between the Lord’s Taverners and Champions has paved the way for further collaborations to help raise much-needed funds to support the work of the charity. Throughout the country, our programmes are breaking down barriers and empowering young people to fulfil their potential and helping to build crucial life skills. Our partnership with Champions helps us to continue that work and help lay the foundations for a positive future and build stronger communities across the UK.”

In turn, Champions (UK) plc CEO John Hayes greeted the extended partnership with equal enthusiasm, stating:

“We are thrilled to renew our partnership with the Lord’s Taverners for another year. They are a fantastic cause who are great to work alongside and their charitable efforts cannot be understated. We are looking forward to having the Lord’s Taverners joining us at more of our events this year and hopefully we can continue our relationship long into the future.”
