On Wednesday, months of anticipation, hard work and tough decisions culminated at the Nottingham Post Business Awards 2019. The event saw members of Nottingham’s thriving business community join together for a night of celebration as their achievements from the last 12 months were acknowledged. Businesses both big and small and from a range of sectors were rewarded at the ceremony, with SDL Group winning the highly contested Company of the Year title.
Awards were handed out in 15 categories last night, stealing the title from previous winners in categories such as Business Entrepreneur of the Year and Contribution to the Community Award. Some of the other categories included: Customer Service Excellence Award, Partnership of the Year, Employer of the Year and Excellence in Industry Award. There were some great category sponsors on board this year, including BMI The Park Hospital, Mazars and Tate Recruitment to mention but a few.
The Event Night
The black-tie ceremony was once again hosted at East Midlands Conference Centre, nestled in the heart of Nottingham city. Wednesday’s ceremony got underway with a speech by Nottingham Post editor and publisher, Mike Sassi. Overseeing the event proceedings were event hosts award-winning comedian and television presenter, Mark Dolan, and former world champion, Olympic silver medallist, the queen of badminton, Gail Emms MBE. During the event, more than 400 guests were wined, dined and entertained by the stunning vocals of Belle Voci.
Belle Voci Opera Duo
Emily and Sophie (Belle Voci) entertained guests with a spectacular performance bringing opera to an audience who would not necessarily have access to it. Presenting a diverse repertoire of well-loved operatic, classical and musical – theatre duets to all different varieties of events across the UK. They delivered a truly honest and powerful performance leaving guests stunned by their elegance.
They trained individually before joining forces in January 2015. They have over 20 years of singing experience between them, in 2018 they came third place in the live final on ITV’s The Voice after being selected in the first round of the show by Oscar- Winning, Jennifer Hudson. Emily and Sophie trained individually before joining forces in January 2015.
After their success on The Voice, the duo now have representation of CAA and have many exciting plans for the future including singing live on BBC Radio 1, at Wembley stadium and have booked shows in Monte Carlo, Dubai, Jordan and many more for the rest of the Year.
Rainbows Charity
With hundreds of people in attendance on Wednesday, the Nottingham Post Business Awards presented a fantastic opportunity to raise valuable funds for the chosen charity, Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. A local East Midlands Charity, Rainbows work tirelessly to care for the lives of young people who are suffering from life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.
Upcoming Events
With the Nottingham Post Business Awards now complete, the awards team are preparing for the Derby Telegraph Business Awards. Held at the Roundhouse on Wednesday 5th June, the event is due to be a sell-out, acknowledging business successes in Derbyshire.
